This may seem a sappy poem and maybe it is. I’ve recently come off my antidepressants and I finally feel like I’m truly in touch with my emotions again. It’s rough, it’s an emotional rollercoaster processing everything I’ve been repressing. Yet one thing, I’ve never felt the need to repress is the love I have for my child – there is strength in it. There is always strength in love.
To My Daughter
I love you when you smile
I love you when you scowl
I love you when you laugh
I love you when you cry
I love you when you do well
I love you when you falter
I love you when you behave
I love you when you make mistakes
I’ll love you if you achieve
I’ll love you if you fail
I’ll love you if you land a new job
I’ll love you if you lose it
I’ll love you if you stay on the straight and narrow
I’ll love you if you lose your way
I’ll love you if you strive on your own
I’ll love you if you ever need help
I love you
and I’ll keep loving you
because I simply
cannot ever stop.
